PART ONE-Golf Club Summer Revenue: Don’t Leave Profit on the Table | Ingentro
☀️ PART 1: SUMMER ISN’T OVER — DON’T LEAVE THE PROFIT ON THE TABLE
It’s late August.
The nights are starting to draw in, autumn competitions are appearing in the diary and conversations around golf clubs are already beginning to turn towards winter.
That’s understandable.
But commercially, there’s a danger in switching seasons too early.
Summer isn’t over yet.
There are still golfers on the course. Societies coming through the door. Competition days. Weekend rounds. Warm afternoons. Members sitting outside after golf.
And every one of those represents an opportunity to generate a little more revenue and, importantly, a little more profit before golf inevitably starts to slow down.
You can often tell when a golf club has mentally decided summer is finished.
The terrace gets less attention.
Promotions disappear.
Food availability starts to reduce.
Staffing becomes defensive.
Social media starts talking about next month rather than what’s happening this weekend.
Don’t take your foot off the accelerator too early.
Start with what’s already in the diary
Before trying to invent another event, look at the business you’ve already got coming through the door.
Competitions. Societies. Opens. Club matches. Junior events. Ladies’ days. Presentation evenings. Weekend tee sheets.
For every busy day, ask:
How many people are coming and what else can we sell them?
Could there be a competition-day food special?
A BBQ if the weather looks good?
A society package after golf?
An offer that encourages players to stay for presentations?
Could an afternoon competition become an evening food and drink opportunity?
None of these ideas is revolutionary.
They don’t need to be.
Small increases in spend across several hundred members and visitors can quickly become meaningful additional revenue.
Make the weather work for you
If Wednesday’s forecast says Saturday is going to be 23°C, do something about it on Wednesday.
Promote the terrace.
Put the BBQ on.
Create a simple food offer.
Make sure you've got enough cold stock.
Get the staffing right.
Tell members what’s happening through email and social media.
Don’t wait until 40 members are sitting outside on Saturday afternoon before somebody says:
“We should have done something today.”
And sell to the customers you already have
One of the cheapest customers to acquire is the member already standing at your bar.
A golfer orders a pint. Does anyone mention food?
Four members sit down after a competition. Does anyone tell them about the special?
A society finishes its round. Have you given them a reason to stay?
This isn't about staff aggressively selling.
It's about giving them the confidence to recognise an opportunity and make a simple suggestion.
An extra £2, £5 or £10 per transaction doesn't sound particularly exciting.
Multiply it across hundreds of transactions and it becomes very interesting indeed.
Summer isn't finished.
Don't pack it away early.
There are still valuable trading days ahead — make every one of them count.
Next: Part 2 — Making the money is only half the job. Keeping the profit and preparing your clubhouse for autumn is where good management really starts.
